The Ultimate Guide to Selling Secondhand Clothes on Vinted: Tips from a Self Professed Pre-loved Vinted Addict

How I Became a Successful Vinted Seller: My Top Tips for Selling Secondhand Clothes

If you’ve ever thought about decluttering your wardrobe and making some extra cash, selling on Vinted is a fantastic option. I’ve been selling on Vinted since early 2020 but long before then I have been buying on ebay since the early noughties! Not only am I giving my preloved clothes a second life, but I’m also contributing to a more sustainable fashion industry and getting some great deals in the process. However, I know that starting out on Vinted can feel a bit overwhelming, so I wanted to share some of the key strategies that have helped me succeed.

1) Quality Photos Are Everything

When it comes to selling online, visuals are your best friend. Make sure to take clear, well-lit photos from different angles. Show any unique details, and if there are any flaws, be upfront about them. Buyers appreciate honesty, it builds trust and prevents any frustraiting returns requests. The better your photos, the more likely someone will click on your listing.

2) Be Transparent About Pricing

One of the first things I do before listing an item is to check its original RRP (recommended retail price). This helps me set a fair price that feels like a good deal to potential buyers. If an item is brand new with tags (BNWT), I make sure the price reflects that but still offers a bargain compared to buying it from the store. Remember buyers still have to pay postage and may want to haggle, plus they don't have the security of a returns policy (unless you chose to accept returns but unless I have misrepresented an item this isn't something I offer, it is after all a second hand platform and sometimes you've just got to take your chances.

3) Communicate with Buyers

Don’t be afraid to ask and answer questions. If someone is interested in an item but unsure about the fit or quality, I encourage them to ask for more details. This helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures that the buyer is happy with their purchase, be happy to send a photo of the item being worn as this is often a request I get and unless it doesn't fit I'll happily snap a selfie of me wearing an item. A satisfied buyer is more likely to leave a positive review, which is crucial for building a good reputation.

4) Keep an Eye on Seller Reviews

Just like I check reviews before making a purchase, buyers will do the same for you. Aim for those 5-star reviews by being reliable, communicative, and honest. If you’re new, building up your reviews might take time, but it’s worth the effort. A solid review profile will make you stand out and attract more buyers.
When buying always leave a review this can lead to people re-checking your profile for any new listings you never know you might snag another sale.

5) Stay Active and Keep Listings Fresh

One mistake I made early on was listing items and then forgetting about them. It’s important to stay active—regularly update your listings and add new items to keep your shop fresh. The more active you are, the more likely your items are to appear in searches and catch the eye of potential buyers.

A great way to do this is cycling your listings, I do this by hiding any items that might have not sold for a while or be out of season and re-list them at a later date, most of us search by newly listed so this will bump your listing back to the top!

6) Choose Reliable Couriers

Shipping can be a make-or-break moment in the transaction. You can set your own shipping preferences via the settings but try to offer at least a couple if a buyer prefers a specific courier, I’m usually happy to accommodate. Good packaging (because we've all seen those videos of the shirt packed in a multipack crisp bag) and timely shipping go a long way in ensuring a smooth transaction and earning those 5-star reviews.

7) Use Saved Searches to Stay Ahead

Saved searches are a great tool for both buyers and sellers. As a seller, I keep an eye on what’s trending by using saved searches. This helps me identify what’s in demand, so I can list similar items or adjust my prices accordingly. It’s a simple way to stay competitive on the platform.

Final Thoughts: Why Vinted is Worth It

Selling on Vinted has not only helped me declutter my wardrobe but also made me more conscious of my shopping habits. It feels good to know that I’m playing a part in reducing fashion waste, and I’ve found some amazing secondhand treasures myself. If you’ve been hesitant about selling on Vinted, I hope these tips give you the confidence to give it a try. It’s a fantastic platform, and with a bit of effort, you can turn your preloved clothes into cash while helping others find something they’ll love.
